| Amlwch is a considerable market town and large parish in the Anglesey Union,about 22 miles from Bangor,18 from Holyhead and 13 from Llangefni. It was formally the port of departure for the copper ore found in Parys mountain, just over hanging the town. It was in these mines that the celebrated Simon Fraser,styled hereaboiuts Lord Lovat, took refuge after leaving his own country in 1760. Red Ochre is manufactures from the water of the mines. There is also a guano works of considerable extent. the harbour is a natural creek,surrounded by immense rocks that provide security in all weathers for vessels entering the port. | ||||
