In 1760 Dr John Rutty gave an address to the Royal Society on the " Vitriolic liquors" flowing out of the mountain. They were said to be of benefit for curing ulcers, itches, internal haemorrhaging ,worms and diarrhoea. An illustration from the front page of his discourse is shown alongside. |
