Advice for surface visitors to Mynydd Parys

Surface trail
A leaflet explaining the historical features of the trail around the mountain can be obtained from the car park on the Amlwch to Rhosybol road. (SH438907)  (Download leaflet)

Visitors are free to follow the trail whenever they like.

The trail takes around 2 hours to complete and requires stout footwear on the stony trail.

The is no weather protection on the mountain.

Visitors should remain on the trail at all times as parts of the mountain have been designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by the Countryside Commission for Wales (CCW)These sites contain either rare plants or geological features. Some of the old mine buildings and other features have also been designated as Scheduled Ancient Monuments ( SAMs)  by the CADW the body which was set up to preserve Welsh heritage sites.

For students of geology a field work guide has been issued by the Geologist association. Please follow the guide and do not use hammers in the SSSIs or SAMs.

After the trail why not find out more about the mountain and other industrial history in the area by visiting the Amlwch Industrial Heritage Trust exhibition centre.

The centre  is open from Easter until September and can provide a nice hot cup of tea and refreshments. The centre can be found by following the brown heritage signs down to the picturesque port of Amlwch.

Driving directions to Parys Mountain.

From Chester take the A55 Expressway along the North Wales Coast road.

After passing Bangor, with the magnificent views of the Snowdonia Mountains on your left, take the A5 road bridge over the Menai Straits.

Just over the bridge take the second exit road and turn right onto the A2025.

Follow this road first in the direction of Benllech and then Amlwch which is about 25 miles from the road bridge.

At the mini roundabout on the approach to Amlwch follow the Brown Tourist Signs left up the road leading to the top of the mountain.
